About the UK Fisheries Campaign

The story of the UK Fisheries Campaign started – as these things should – with fishermen themselves.

Early in 2025 and with the renewal of the current EU fishing deal starting to be discussed, fishermen started contacting the one organisation that for the last 10 years had proved itself by researching and reporting on the run-up to the deal, the deal itself, and its aftermath in the subsequent years.

That organisation was the respected think-tank, Facts4EU.Org.

The Facts4EU team had already started looking at revitalising the public’s interest in the UK’s fishing industry and soon began working with concerned fishermen again, producing some of its first 2025 reports on the subject.

Within a couple of months it had become obvious that a nationwide organisation was required, with its own identity, capable of drawing on political and media support to highlight the need for a very different approach to EU negotiations compared to the period 2017-2020.

From Facts4EU to the Fisheries Campaign

So it was that the UK Fisheries Campaign came into being. In the early days the new organisation used all the resources, experience and contacts of Facts4EU, which greatly increased the speed with which the current operation was able to begin to make an impact. Now independent, the UKFC continues to benefit from the resources of the Facts4EU team who developed this website, set up political and media connections, and are managing essential elements for UKFC’s success such as social media channels and campaigns.

UKFC is now seeking to establish itself further, with a National Committee composed of fishermen present and retired, whilst always aiming to be a low-cost, efficient organisation with a small Executive Team that can respond instantly to the changing news agenda. We are currently looking to broaden our reach and actively welcome contact from fishermen and groups across the country. The more fishermen we represent, the greater will be the impact we can make at a political level and the higher the chances of securing a new deal with the EU that will be a vast improvement on the current one.
