The UK Fisheries Campaign has launched!

One of the biggest totemic Brexit issues is back.
And this time it’s bigger than ever.

The EU-UK fishing deal, universally hated by the UK’s fishermen, was set for a duration of five-and-a-half years. That end is finally in sight. Given how long the EU typically takes over negotiations like these, now is the time to start setting out a firm position to rebuild our fishing fleet and revitalise our coastal communities.

The UK Fisheries Campaign (UKFC) is:

  • Instigated by the fishermen themselves,
  • Backed by knowledgeable and influential politicians, and
  • Supported by mainstream media such as GB News and the Daily Express
  • A non-partisan, not-for-profit organisation
  • speaking with one voice for the UK’s fishermen and our coastal communities

From our Chairman: “The UKFC is ready to put the sovereignty of UK waters and the future of our totemic fishing industry right back where it belongs, as a leading symbol of a confident country standing tall on the international stage once again. Will you join us?

Happening on Thurs, 17 April 2025

At the heart of the public launch of this new campaign today, we set the ball rolling on what will be a rollercoaster week.

On Thursday afternoon on GB News, TV’s Martin Daubney launches the UKFC live on his show from 3pm-6pm. Martin will be joined by one of the politicians backing the campaign, show some dramatic video footage, and will interview one of our fishermen.

Over this Easter we present all you need to know about this initiative as it starts rolling out from today. Over the coming days there will be reports on GB News, in the Daily Express, and by the industry newspaper, Fishing News, as well as follow-up articles in other media and promotion by affiliated organisations.

The most important thing to do today is to join the UKFC, to show government and the EU that this time we really are going to take back control of our waters.

The Campaign is not proposing to ban all EU boats from UK waters but it IS determined to change the basis of any agreement with the EU into one which is appropriate for any independent country surrounded by its own rich seas. To do this we need your help.

Show your support and take advantage of our Easter Special, starting today. Become a Member of the UK Fisheries Campaign for 50% off the standard annual membership fee! For the equivalent of the price of a cup of coffee a month, you can be part of this iconic movement. You will be showing the government – and the EU – that what happened to our fishermen five years ago is not going to happen again.

And if you can afford to be more generous, we have three other levels of membership which will put you right at the heart of things.

As the momentum builds we will hold live online events with the opportunity to question prominent politicians, you will have sight of premium content for Members-only, and the chance to participate in the policy-making as we respond to the likes of President Macron’s threats.

Soundly-funded means being more effective

If you can afford it, please join AND make a donation. Let’s do this thing properly by being soundly-funded from the start.

We need a war chest for the non-partisan, not-for-profit UKFC organisation which plans to act as a beacon for all the other issues left unresolved following the debacle of the Theresa May years and their aftermath. Where fishing leads, we believe the public mood will shift once again, becoming confident and determined to see the interests of the United Kingdom put first.

Will you join us now? It takes only one minute and a credit card. You will be funding our work to make things happen, not the limos and expense accounts they are used to in Brussels.

Non-partisan, working for all, with a single voice

Finally, to all fishermen reading this, get in touch. Join us and be part of shaping policy. Whether you are the crew of one boat or part of a local group of skippers and crew, we want to hear from you. As the Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP, Parliament’s Select Committee Chairman on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs puts it:

“I will work with anyone who cares about the fishing industry and the importance that it has for our coastal and island communities.

“The upcoming review of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU is probably the most important opportunity we shall have in this decade to improve fisheries management. Political division in this country can only harm our negotiating position with the EU. Our best chance will come from speaking with a single voice.

– Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP, Parliament’s Select Committee Chairman on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, 17 Apr 2025

Observations

We agree with Alistair Carmichael. Party politics doesn’t come into this. The restoration of the UK’s fishing industry is not a party political affair. Like Mr Carmichael we wish to see all who believe in this case come together.

We hope all readers will feel the same way and urge everyone to support the UK Fisheries Campaign in its important fight ahead. Members of the Facts4EU team have already put months of effort into this. We hope you will become a Member of the Campaign today.
